Lebanese Prime Minister speaks on 'the situation in the Middle East': 'Unprecedented developments'

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati stated that as a result of Israeli attacks, hospitals in his country are full of civilian casualties, 'including dozens of women and children.'

Speaking at a UN Security Council session titled 'The Situation in the Middle East,' Mikati assessed the Israeli attacks that have caused the deaths of hundreds of people in Lebanon.

Prime Minister Mikati said, 'The aggressor claims they are only targeting fighters and weapons. However, I assure you that Lebanese hospitals are full of civilian casualties, including dozens of women and children.'

The airstrikes carried out by Israel since September 21 have been the most intense bombardments seen since World War II.

Describing the events in Lebanon as 'unprecedented' developments, Mikati drew attention to the human rights violations Israel is committing against the Lebanese people.

Mikati stated, 'Israel is violating our sovereignty by killing our civilians, including youth, women, and children, destroying homes, forcing families to flee from difficult humanitarian conditions, and sending its warplanes and drones into our skies.'

Najib Mikati called on the UNSC members attending the session where he delivered his speech to 'pressure Israel to achieve an immediate ceasefire on all fronts.'

THE TRAGEDY IN GAZA HAS BEGUN TO UNFOLD IN LEBANON

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati pointed out that the conflicts occurring in his country are 'a reflection of what is happening in Gaza.'

Mikati used the expressions, 'The repercussions of what is happening in Gaza are directly affecting the situation in Lebanon and the region, and what is happening will not stop at the region's borders; it will encompass the entire Middle East.'

At the end of his speech, Mikati added:

'We see today that the world has failed to stop the ongoing humanitarian tragedy in our region. Therefore, on behalf of the Lebanese people, we call on your council to assume all its responsibilities and take an urgent, decisive stance that will end the difficult situation our people are in and pave the way for diplomatic solutions.'
