LGBT ruling in Russia: Activities banned!

The Supreme Court of Russia convened regarding the activities of the LGBT movement in the country following an application by the Ministry of Justice.

In the closed-door meeting, it was decided that the LGBT movement should be considered extremist and its activities banned.

In a statement issued by the Russian Ministry of Justice on November 17, it was stated that elements of social and religious discord had been identified in the activities of the LGBT movement and that this violated federal law.

The statement noted that an application had been filed with the Supreme Court of Russia for the LGBT movement to be recognized as "extremist" and for its activities in the country to be banned.

With a decree signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin last year, same-sex relationships in the country were included under the scope of "ideas and values destructive to Russian society."
