'Lifetime ban from politics' penalty overturned by court ruling
The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ruled to overturn the lifetime ban on politicians from participating in politics.

According to reports in the national press, the Supreme Court bench emphasized that no individual can be banned from running in elections for life.
The court bench ruled to lift the lifetime ban on politicians, stating that parliamentarians found guilty can be barred from public office for a period of 5 years.
NO OBSTACLES REMAIN FOR PARTICIPATION IN ELECTIONS
With the court's decision, there are no longer any obstacles preventing former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who was banned from politics for life in 2018, from participating in the general elections on February 8.
On the other hand, Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) leader Jahangir Tareen, who was also banned from politics for life, will be able to participate in the general elections.
The court decision was welcomed by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), and the IPP.
Hammad Azhar, Secretary General of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), reacted to this decision taken ahead of the general elections.
