Lion escapes from circus and wanders the streets

A lion that escaped from a circus in the town of Ladispoli, near the Italian capital Rome, caused moments of fear for residents.

While efforts to capture the lion, which had been missing since last night, were ongoing, Ladispoli Mayor Alessandro Grando announced that police and circus staff were working to secure the animal.

Hours after the announcement, Italian media reported that the lion that escaped from the circus had been captured after being shot with a tranquilizer dart.
