Macron's thank you message to Turkey for forest fires: 'Thank you Turkey'

French President Emmanuel Macron published a thank you message in Turkish on his social media account after Turkey sent 2 firefighting aircraft to support the fight against forest fires in his country.

Quoting the post where Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı announced that the aircraft had been deployed, Macron said, “Thank you Turkey” he stated.

In his statement, Minister Yumaklı announced that 2 firefighting aircraft were deployed upon France's request for support, in accordance with the instructions of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Yumaklı stated that Turkey takes responsibility for protecting not only its own forests but also forests in other countries when needed.

Drawing attention to the difficulty of intervening in the fires that have been raging in Europe for days, Yumaklı said, “Forests are not just entrusted to us; they are the most valuable legacy we will leave to future generations. With this awareness, we will continue our solidarity and struggle that transcends borders with determination” he said.

Turkey had previously sent 2 firefighting aircraft to intervene in forest fires in Spain. The European Commission's Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations also shared a “Thank you Turkey” post in Turkish for this support.
