Speaking to state television VTV, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro reacted harshly to the immigration policy of the US President Donald Trump administration.
Maduro stated, "I reject and condemn the stripping of Temporary Protected Status from migrants. Migrating is not a crime, and revoking Temporary Protected Status (TPS) is a crime, because it is their right. Migrating is a human necessity. Venezuelans migrated believing in the American dream, but they encountered an American tragedy."
Noting that TPS provided minimal protection for Venezuelans, Maduro said, "They thought they were going to a paradise due to the economic war and the manipulation created by social media. However, Venezuela will very soon be a strong and prosperous country again, and no one will have to be forced to migrate from these lands."
The US Supreme Court had upheld the Trump administration's decision to end TPS, and it was stated that this decision could lead to thousands of Venezuelan migrants facing the risk of deportation.
