Massive damages award against Trump upheld
The U.S. 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals in New York City announced its opinion regarding the Trump case today.

In the opinion released by the court, it was stated that "Trump has failed to provide any justification that would require us to re-evaluate our previous decision regarding presidential immunity."
The opinion further noted that the district court made no errors in any of the challenged decisions regarding the case, and concluded that the jury's damages awards were fair and reasonable.
Thus, the appeals court upheld the 83.3 million dollar damages award against Trump for defaming former magazine columnist E. Jean Carroll.
Following the U.S. Supreme Court's expansion of presidential immunity for federal charges in July 2024, President Trump had appealed the New York court's decision ordering him to pay damages to Carroll, arguing that the ruling was "excessive and invalid."
Magazine columnist E. Jean Carroll, 81, had alleged that Trump raped her in the dressing room of the Bergdorf Goodman department store in New York in the spring of 1996, while Trump had denied the allegations.
