Mazlum Abdi appointed as advisor to the Syrian Presidency

It has been reported that Mazlum Abdi, the former commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), has been appointed as an advisor to the Syrian Presidency.
According to the official Syrian news agency SANA, the appointment was made through decree number 164 of 2026, issued under the signature of Syria's appointed President, Ahmed Shara.
The decree used Abdi's official name, Mustafa Khalil Abdi. In its report, SANA stated, "President Ahmed Shara has appointed Mustafa Khalil Abdi (Mazlum Abdi) as an advisor to the Presidency via decree number 164 of 2026."
Abdi's appointment comes following a period in which it was stated that the SDF had been dissolved and had completed its integration process with the government structure in Syria. Ahmed Shara is known as the leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
