Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum made a statement following the implementation of a 25 percent tariff that US President Donald Trump planned to impose on Mexico, citing high levels of drug entry into the US. Stating that they would impose additional taxes in retaliation against the US, Sheinbaum said that there was no reason or justification for Trump's 25 percent tariff on Mexico.

Emphasizing that they are in favor of a negotiated solution, Sheinbaum stated, "However, the unilateral decision taken by the US affects domestic and foreign companies operating in our country and our people. For this reason, we have decided to respond with tax and non-tax measures," adding that she would announce the details of the response later.

The US also decided to impose a 10 percent tariff on energy products such as crude oil imported from Canada, a 25 percent tariff on other products, and a 20 percent tariff on all products imported from China.
