The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that an Ilyushin Il-76 military transport aircraft crashed in Russia after one of its engines failed during takeoff.
The statement indicated that there were 15 people on board, including eight crew members and seven passengers, and that no one survived the crash. The incident occurred in the Ivanovo Region, approximately 250 kilometers east of the capital, Moscow.
According to a report by RT News, the pilot of the aircraft was attempting to return to the Ivanovo Severny airbase but was unable to do so. According to the report, the pilot prevented the plane from crashing into a nearby village. The pilot brought the plane down before it could hit the village. Russian media are commenting that if the plane had crashed into the village, it would have caused the deaths of dozens of people, and that the pilot made a heroic decision.
