Minister who hiked rent faces public backlash

Rushanara Ali, the British Labour Party's Minister for Homelessness, has made headlines regarding developments at her property in East London. Ali, who had previously made statements against high rent increases, faced backlash after significantly raising the rent on a property she owns following the eviction of her tenants. According to allegations, the four tenants were notified via email last November that their lease agreements would not be renewed. When the house could not be sold, it was put back on the market, but this time with a much higher rental price.

Tenant Laura Jackson stated that shortly after moving out, the same four-bedroom house was listed for 4,000 pounds per month. According to Jackson's statement, the rent for this house was previously around 3,300 pounds per month. Jackson expressed her reaction by saying, "This is a complete joke. Trying to get this much money from tenants is essentially extortion."

Meanwhile, UK Shadow Housing Secretary James Cleverly claimed that the situation is an example of great hypocrisy and stated that Ali should be removed from her post. Calls for resignation are also being made by the public against Rushanara Ali, who is the MP for the Bethnal Green and Stepney constituency.
