Mpox outbreak declared in the Republic of the Congo
An outbreak has been declared in the Republic of the Congo after mpox cases were detected in 5 regions, including the capital, Brazzaville.

Health Minister Gilbert Mokoki announced in a statement that an outbreak has been declared following the registration of 19 mpox cases in the country.
Emphasizing that no deaths have been recorded so far, Mokoki called on the public to avoid suspected cases and close contact with animals.
Known as one of the rare diseases caused by an endemic virus, mpox is divided into two types: the Congo and West African strains.
The virus, which is usually transmitted from animals to humans and rarely from human to human through close contact, can cause high fever and itchy blisters on the body.
The World Health Organization announced on November 28, 2023, that the virus had been renamed from "monkeypox" to "mpox," citing concerns over stigma and racism.
