Mpox virus spreads to Sweden

The mpox virus, which has spread from the Democratic Republic of the Congo to neighboring countries, has been detected in Europe following its presence on the African continent.

The first case of mpox has been confirmed in Sweden. Swedish Minister for Social Affairs and Public Health Jakob Forssmed stated at a press conference, "We have confirmed this afternoon that we have a case in Sweden of the more serious type of mpox, known as Clade I."

In a statement issued by the Public Health Agency of Sweden, it was reported that the case in question is the first time the dangerous Clade I variant of the mpox virus has been detected outside of Africa, and it was noted that the patient is in the capital, Stockholm.

The WHO declared a global public health emergency yesterday for the second time in two years due to the spread of the mpox virus.
