Following reports in the British press regarding potential Iranian plans to attack US military targets in Europe, a statement has been issued by NATO. The Alliance stated that its deterrence and defense capacity against threats originating from Iran is strong.

In its statement, NATO emphasized its commitment to the defense of all allies. The statement included the phrase, "NATO will always do what is necessary to defend all its allies."

The Alliance also drew attention to the effectiveness of its air defense systems. Noting that ballistic missiles directed from Iran toward Turkey were successfully intercepted in four separate incidents earlier this year, NATO assessed that "our deterrence and defense posture is strong and effective."

These developments have come to the fore in connection with a warning from the Iranian side following the granting of permission for the US to use a base in Bulgaria. It was reported that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi delivered a message to the Sofia administration during his meeting with his Bulgarian counterpart.

Araghchi stated that any parties participating in a potential military attack against Iran would be held responsible for the consequences. The Iranian minister was reported to have said, "Any party that participates in any way in launching a military attack against Iran will definitely be held responsible for the consequences."
