Nawrocki wins presidential election in Poland

In the second round of the presidential election held in Poland on Sunday, voters chose between Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski and historian Karol Nawrocki, the candidate of the Law and Justice Party.

According to official results, Nawrocki will take the presidential seat with 50.9 percent of the vote. Trzaskowski remained at 49.1 percent.

The voter turnout was announced as 71.63 percent.

The election took place in the shadow of tensions between Prime Minister Donald Tusk's government and the opposition in Poland over issues such as European Union relations, judicial reforms, abortion laws, and the Russia-Ukraine War.

Political experts suggest that due to Nawrocki's distant stance toward the European Union and his influence by the policies of former US President Donald Trump, he may pose challenges to the Tusk-led coalition government during his presidency by utilizing his veto powers.
