It has been reported that on April 20, three Nazi flags featuring swastikas were hung by unidentified individuals at a highway entrance in the Essingeleden area of Sweden's capital, Stockholm. The date drew attention as it marks the birthday of Adolf Hitler.
Stockholm Police Department Press Spokesperson Mats Eriksson stated in a press release regarding the matter that many citizens had filed criminal complaints with the police following the incident. Accordingly, he announced that the police have launched an official investigation under the scope of "hate crime."
Eriksson noted that it is disturbing for such incidents to occur in Sweden, adding that political banners have been encountered on the rocks at the aforementioned highway entrance in the past.
"Activists, in particular, share political messages here because traffic is heavy. This display is not pleasant at all." said Eriksson, expressing that the Nazi flags were most likely placed in connection with April 20, Adolf Hitler's birthday.
