Nearly 400 thousand dollars found in deceased beggar's home

It has been revealed that an elderly beggar who passed away after being hospitalized due to an illness in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, was a millionaire. Following the beggar's death, her two siblings went to her home to retrieve her identification and discovered millions of Iraqi dinars and gold hidden in bags. 

When the siblings were caught by the neighborhood headman while loading their sister's money and gold into a car, the police were called to the scene. A search of the house by the police uncovered more than 380 thousand dollars in cash along with gold. The police detained the deceased woman's siblings.

"MONEY IN SACKS WAS BEING CARRIED TO THE CAR"

Mohammed Salih Mehdi, one of the police officers who participated in the search of the beggar's home, stated, "The squad officer called me to report a death in the al-Kadhimiya district. When we arrived at the scene, a woman and a man who had come to look for the deceased beggar's identification were removing money from a house. Police teams that arrived at the scene immediately saw them carrying the money the beggar had hidden in sacks to a car," he said.

"WE HANDED OVER ALL THE MONEY"

Police officer Abduljabbar Salih said, "We received a report about a fight. When we arrived at the scene, there was no fight, but we saw two people carrying sacks full of money from a house to their car.

We immediately detained these two individuals. We called the center right away and told them there was no fight, but that a large amount of money in sacks was being removed from a house by two people. The center asked us to stay at the scene, and we handed over all the money found there," he said.

The woman's neighbors stated that they helped the woman, who made a living by begging, a lot and constantly gave food to the woman who had no one else. It was alleged that the deceased woman's son was a police officer.
