Mortada and Israel's Ambassador to London, Tzipi Hotovely, answered questions regarding developments in the region during a program they attended on the British Sky News television channel.

Lebanese Ambassador Mortada responded to claims that Nasrallah had accepted a 21-day ceasefire before being killed in an Israeli strike and that this was known by the US.

'HE REJECTED IT AFTER GOING TO NEW YORK'

Mortada said, "Yes, we had informed them that we approved the ceasefire proposal known to the US, the UK, and 15 other countries. Unfortunately, whatever happened after Netanyahu went to New York, he rejected this peace plan and still rejects it. This plan is still binding for us. As our Prime Minister has reiterated, we are committed to the plan calling for a 21-day ceasefire and to the diplomatic arrangements that will address all concerns in the meantime."

Suggesting that Israel chooses violence instead of resolving its concerns through diplomatic channels, Mortada said, "They are using Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza as scapegoats. But the issue is not Hezbollah; the issue is Lebanon."

'THEY ARE TRYING TO DIVERT ATTENTION'

Stating that Israel blames others to cover up its own mistakes, Mortada said, "Israel occupied Lebanese territory for 22 years. They continued even after the United Nations (UN) Security Council Resolution 1701 was passed. Security can only be based on mutual security. You cannot make your neighbor insecure and expect them to provide you with security."

Drawing attention to the responsibilities of Israel and Lebanon under UN Security Council Resolution 1701, Mortada emphasized that Israel must respect Lebanon's sovereignty.

Noting that the solution to the problems in the region is not simple, Mortada said the following:

"You cannot oversimplify it as Israel does. Israel is doing this deliberately because the issue goes far beyond Hezbollah. The goal is not Hezbollah in Lebanon, nor is it Hamas in Gaza. Israel is a country that only knows how to kill and cannot bring peace. They only want to terrorize. By treating the peoples around them cruelly, they are trying to divert attention from the fact that they will not be able to achieve a two-state solution with the Palestinians."

'THIS IS RIDICULOUS'

Israeli Ambassador to London Hotovely, on the other hand, claimed that Israel has no goal other than ensuring the safety of its own people in Gaza and Lebanon.

Responding to the claims that Nasrallah had accepted the ceasefire, Hotovely said, "Hassan Nasrallah did not approve any ceasefire. This is ridiculous."

Evaluating the civilian deaths in Israeli attacks in Lebanon and Gaza, Hotovely said, "We do not have a goal of killing civilians. None at all. We are not doing this in Gaza or in Lebanon. Hamas and Hezbollah are responsible for these deaths. They are using their own people as human shields."

Claiming that Israel conducts operations with more caution than any Western army, Hotovely also touched upon Iran's attacks on Israel.

Regarding the question of whether there is a plan for a direct attack against Iran, Hotovely said, "All options are on the table. As the Prime Minister (Netanyahu) has clearly stated, we cannot allow this threat to continue. Iran has a strategic plan on how to destroy Israel."
