Netherlands fines Uber 290 million euros for transferring user data to the US without authorization
Dutch authorities have announced a 290 million euro fine for Uber, determining that the company seriously violated the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

The Dutch Data Protection Authority (DPA) has announced that it has issued a 290 million euro fine to the ride-hailing app Uber. It was stated that the company, which was found to have violated laws applied in the European Union (EU), transferred drivers' personal data to servers in the US for 2 years.
Dutch authorities explained that the transfer in question covered Uber drivers' account information, taxi licenses, location data, photos, payment details, identification documents, and in some cases, even the drivers' criminal and medical records.
Following an investigation launched after complaints from more than 170 French drivers, it was determined that Uber had 'seriously' violated the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The company is expected to appeal the fine.
