Netherlands intervenes against drones flying over military base

The Dutch Ministry of Defense announced that the military intervened against unmanned aerial vehicles detected over the Volkel air base in the southeast of the country on Friday night. The drones were spotted over the base, which is located near the German border, between 19:00 and 21:00 local time.
The ministry stated that air force personnel opened fire from the ground to neutralize the unmanned aerial vehicles and that the drones left the area following this intervention. However, it is not yet known why the drones were flying in the restricted zone.
Following the incident, military police launched an investigation to determine why the unmanned aerial vehicles entered the restricted zone. No information has yet been obtained regarding who was controlling the drones or for what purpose they were being flown.
