Netherlands issues '72-hour' warning to citizens: Be prepared
The Dutch government has announced that its citizens should be able to sustain themselves for 72 hours in the event of war, cyberattacks, or disasters.

Dutch Minister of Justice and Security David van Weel called on citizens to be prepared for emergencies in a post on the X platform.
Van Weel stated, "The Netherlands is following Europe's recommendation. Every Dutch citizen should be able to sustain themselves for 72 hours in the event of a cyberattack, disaster, or war."
In his post, van Weel said, "We need to increase our resilience," and emphasized that the government has identified logistics, electricity, water, food, healthcare services, and public administration as priority sectors of vital importance during emergencies.
Minister van Weel cited the Cold War era as an example and continued:
"Back then, we knew what to do when the air raid siren sounded. Citizens had duties to perform in emergencies. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, we reduced our defenses and at the same time eliminated all civil resilience."
