According to a report by the BBC citing a senior Palestinian official, Egypt and Qatar, who are mediating between Israel and Hamas for a ceasefire and prisoner exchange, have presented a new proposal that envisions a long-term ceasefire and a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.
CEASEFIRE PROPOSAL ENVISIONS ENDING THE OCCUPATION
According to the report, the proposal includes a ceasefire lasting 5 to 7 years, the formal end of the war, the complete withdrawal of the Israeli army from Gaza, and the 'exchange of all Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.'
According to the Palestinian official, Hamas has noted that it is willing to transfer the administration of Gaza to the Palestinian Authority or to a newly established Palestinian entity.
The official stated that Hamas has shown 'unprecedented flexibility.' The BBC reported that Israel has not yet commented on the plan and that a high-level Hamas delegation will travel to Cairo for consultations.
