New airstrikes on Idlib from Syria and Russia: Advance towards Aleppo continues

According to statements made earlier today, at least 25 people have lost their lives in airstrikes conducted by the Syrian government and Russia on Idlib. The White Helmets, who operate in opposition-controlled areas in Syria, stated that the number of dead and injured may rise.

According to military sources, Russian and Syrian warplanes targeted densely populated areas in Idlib on Sunday. The aircraft are focusing on the Aleppo and Idlib regions controlled by HTS.

AT LEAST 10 CHILDREN KILLED

Seven people lost their lives and dozens were injured in the attack carried out by the Russian and Syrian Air Forces in Idlib. Tensions in the region are at an all-time high due to the attacks.

The White Helmets announced that at least 10 children were among those killed in the attacks on rebel-controlled areas near Idlib and Aleppo.

It was announced that the total number of people killed in attacks by Syria and Russia since November 27 has reached 56. Twenty children also lost their lives in these attacks.

ALEPPO HAS FALLEN

On Friday night, rebels took control of the city of Aleppo. Shops remained closed in many parts of the city and the streets were almost completely empty. A large portion of the civilian population fled towards southern Syria.

Aleppo shopkeeper Ahmed Tütenci told journalists in the region, "I was surprised by how quickly the army retreated. They left us completely alone."

Militants advanced south of Aleppo and captured the strategically important town of Khansir. At the same time, they claimed to have taken control of the Sheikh Najjar region, one of the country's major industrial zones.

MILITANTS GROWING STRONGER

Anti-regime militants have seized large quantities of heavy weapons, ammunition, and armored vehicles. They captured drones, military helicopters, and warplanes at Aleppo International Airport.

The opposition militants, who had been vulnerable to airstrikes until now, have captured at least two air defense systems.

The Syrian army is regrouping its forces to retake the city. It reported that reinforcements have been sent.

OFFENSIVE SLOWS DOWN

In a joint statement issued by the US, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, all parties were called upon to de-escalate tensions and protect civilians. The statement expressed concern over the increased difficulty in accessing basic necessities and the potential for a new refugee influx.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi visited Damascus on Sunday to express his support for the Syrian government. Araghchi said, "The situation in Syria is difficult, but the Assad government will prevail."

Iranian-backed militias in the region have begun to gather, particularly around Aleppo, and the rapid advance of militants affiliated with HTS has been significantly slowed.
