New leader Rodriguez sworn in in Venezuela

Following the US military operationconductedin Venezuela on January 3, whichabducted the ousted leader of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, to New York, and his subsequent appearance incourt, his deputy Delcy Rodriguez has been sworn in as Venezuela's interim Presisworn in as president.

Sworn in by National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez, who is also her brother, Rodriguez said, "Due to theillegitimatemilitary attack against our homeland, I am herewith sorrow because of the sufferingof the Venezuelan people."

Those who supportUS attacks will be arrested.

Before the swearing-inceremony, Rodriguez referred to the state of emergencydeclared bythe ousted leader Maduroand the decree issued by the US-abductedapproved the decree titled "State of Foreign Interference" signed on January 3, when it wasbroken.

Under the decree, those who support and incite US attacks will be arrested and prosecuted. The decree states, "National, state, and municipal police forces will arrest any person whoincites or supportsthe armed attackdirected at thecountry's territory."should be immediately subject to search and arrest warrants throughout the national territoryin order to stand trial," it was stated.

It was reported that the decreewill remain in effect for 90 daysand that this period may be extendedfor another 90 daysif necessary.

Under the state of emergency thedecree issued, based on theprovision added to the country's constitution in 1999 regarding a president who "seriously endangers the security of the nation, its citizens, or its institutions"ina conflictdecree in case of emergency, stating thatthe provision, being appliedfor the first time, wasrecorded.
