New non-permanent members of the UN Security Council announced
Greece, Somalia, Pakistan, Panama, and Denmark have been elected as the new non-permanent members of the UN Security Council following a vote at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly.

The new non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for the 2025-2026 term were elected through a vote held at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly.
In the voting, Denmark with 184 votes, Panama with 183 votes, Pakistan with 182 votes, Greece with 182 votes, and Somalia with 179 votes became the new non-permanent members of the UN Security Council.
These countries, which received two-thirds of the votes, will replace Ecuador, Japan, Malta, Mozambique, and Switzerland, and will serve from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2026.
While China, France, Russia, the UK, and the US are permanent members of the UN Security Council, there are 10 non-permanent members, with 5 of these non-permanent seats being renewed by election each year.
