The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has announced that additional attacks against Iran have been launched under the orders of President Donald Trump. The statement argued that the attacks are intended to reduce Iran's capacity to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran's semi-official Fars News Agency reported that sounds of explosions were heard in the country's south. According to the report, explosion sounds were recorded around 23:15 local time in the cities of Sirik and Bandar Abbas in Hormozgan province, as well as in Chabahar and Konarak in Sistan and Baluchestan province.
In a statement made on CENTCOM's social media account, it was stated that the US holds Iran responsible for targeting commercial vessels and civilian crews in international waters. The command stated that the new attacks were launched for this reason.
It had been reported that the US also carried out an attack on Iran's southern coast the previous night, and that 8 Iranian soldiers lost their lives in those attacks. With this latest development, it is assessed that tensions in the region are escalating further.
TRUMP HAD MADE A STERN STATEMENT
US President Trump had given stern messages regarding Iran during a press conference held on July 8 as part of the NATO Summit. Trump had used the expression, “We will not make a deal, we will finish the job,” and stated that Iran would not be allowed to possess nuclear weapons.
In his statement, Trump also made claims regarding Iran's military capacity, saying, “They have no ships left. They have no radars.” The continuation of the attacks by the US administration has increased concerns regarding security risks, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz.
