Nigeria declares 'national mourning' for victims of attacks in Plateau state
A 7-day period of "national mourning" has been declared for those who lost their lives in attacks carried out by gunmen on villages in Nigeria's Plateau state on December 25.

Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang stated in his announcement, "I call on all our citizens to pray intensely for God's help to defend our land against the wicked men who have risen against us."
200 PEOPLE HAD LOST THEIR LIVES
Mutfwang stated that a "national mourning" period has been declared until January 8 for those who lost their lives in the attacks carried out in the state. At least 200 people had lost their lives in attacks carried out by gunmen on the Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi regions of Plateau state on December 25.
In the attacks, 1,290 houses, 81 vehicles, and 187 motorcycles were torched.
Following the attack, Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had instructed relevant state agencies to "act immediately, search every part of the region, and apprehend the culprits."
