No free medical treatment for undocumented individuals in France

The French Senate is currently debating a bill covering immigration and asylum issues.

The provision of the bill that prohibits the state from providing free medical treatment to those without residency status was approved by a majority vote.

Accordingly, those without a residence permit in the country will not be able to benefit from state-provided free medical treatment, except in emergency cases.

Once all articles of the bill pass the Senate, it will be sent to the National Assembly for further negotiation.

Immigration bill in the Senate

The immigration bill, which the government had repeatedly postponed to a later date, began to be debated in the Senate at the beginning of the week.

Senators had previously approved provisions of the bill that grant parliament the authority to set immigration quotas for the next 3 years and tighten the conditions for family reunification.

The bill, which is expected to be discussed in the lower house of parliament, the National Assembly, in December, is planned to be finalized and implemented by the end of the year.
