North Korea warns against South Korea's nuclear-powered submarine plan

North Korea has reacted to South Korea's plan to develop nuclear-powered submarines. The Pyongyang administration described the program in question as a "national security threat."

In a statement released through state media KCNA, the North Korean Foreign Ministry argued that Seoul's plan would increase not only tensions on the Korean Peninsula but also regional instability on a broader scale.

The statement noted that Pyongyang must strengthen its deterrence to respond to the military moves of its "enemies." In this context, North Korea stated that it must possess the capability to carry out "retaliatory strikes that would make their survival impossible."

South Korea's goal of acquiring nuclear-powered submarines is being closely monitored in terms of the military balance and submarine capabilities in the region. Pyongyang's statement has emerged as a new chapter in the rising military tensions between the two Koreas in recent times.

North Korea has conducted two ballistic missile tests this month. It was reported that the first test was carried out on August 6, and the missile was launched in the direction of the East Sea.
