North Korea's satellite launch attempt ends in failure
North Korea announced that its attempt to launch a reconnaissance satellite into orbit failed after the carrier rocket exploded in mid-air. A statement regarding the latest weapons test has come from North Korea, which fired an unidentified missile last night.

According to reports in official North Korean media, the National Aerospace Technology Administration (NATA) conducted a launch attempt for the "Malligyong-1-1" reconnaissance satellite.
It was stated that a newly developed satellite carrier rocket was used in the test conducted at the Sohae Satellite Launching Ground in North Phyongan Province, and that the rocket exploded in mid-air shortly after launch.
Initial investigations determined that the accident was caused by a malfunction in the liquid oxygen and petroleum engine, and it was stated that a detailed investigation into the incident has been launched.
HAD ANNOUNCED IT WOULD LAUNCH A SATELLITE
North Korea, which notified the Japan Coast Guard (JCG), had announced that it would attempt to launch a satellite between May 27 and June 3, and it was reported that Pyongyang fired an unidentified missile toward the Yellow Sea at 22:44 last night.
In a statement from the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), it was stated that it was assessed that North Korea had launched a satellite carrier rocket.
NOT THE FIRST FAILED ATTEMPT
Following two failed launch attempts in May and August of last year, North Korea announced in November that it had successfully placed its spy satellite, Malligyong-1, into orbit.
The Pyongyang administration had announced that it aimed to send new satellites into orbit in 2024.
