Norway announces it will vote in favor of Palestine's UN membership
Norway has announced that it welcomes the United Nations (UN) General Assembly's adoption of the resolution seeking UN membership and additional rights for Palestine, and that it will vote in favor in the upcoming vote.

Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide made a statement regarding the UN General Assembly's decision.
Eide stated that Norway supports Palestine's application for full UN membership status and that his country will vote in favor in the vote to be held in the General Assembly.
"We are very pleased that the resolution was adopted with 143 countries voting in favor," Eide said, noting that "the establishment of a Palestinian state is necessary to achieve a two-state solution."
UN ADOPTS RESOLUTION ON PALESTINE
In the vote held yesterday at the UN General Assembly, a resolution was adopted requesting that Palestine's UN membership be reconsidered by the UN Security Council and that certain additional rights be granted to Palestine, which currently holds observer status.
The resolution pointed out that "Palestine fulfills the criteria for membership in the UN in accordance with Article 4 of the UN Charter and should therefore be admitted as a member of the UN."
Palestine had applied for full UN membership in 2011 but failed to receive the necessary support in the UNSC. Palestine attained "permanent observer status" at the UN in 2012.
