EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Borrell made statements on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum special meeting in Riyadh. In his statement, Borrell said that many EU member states are expected to recognize the State of Palestine.

At the EU Leaders' Summit held in Brussels last week, a joint statement on the issue had come from 4 countries.

The leaders of Spain, Ireland, Slovenia, and Malta stated in the announcement that they were ready to recognize Palestine as a state 'when the conditions are appropriate'.

It is assessed that these 4 countries are the ones Borrell referred to in his statement.
