Russia has conducted a nuclear exercise. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that they carried out the nuclear exercise, stating that Russia must keep its nuclear forces in a state of readiness.

Putin said, "Given the increasing geopolitical tensions, emerging new external threats and risks, it is important to have modern and constantly ready strategic forces. I emphasize that we will not enter into a new arms race, but we will maintain our nuclear forces at the necessary level of sufficiency."

Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov stated in his announcement that the purpose of the exercise was to launch a "massive nuclear strike in response to an enemy's nuclear strike."

The exercise involved the Yars intercontinental ballistic missile, Sineva and Bulava ballistic missiles launched from submarines, and cruise missiles fired from strategic bombers.
