NYT: Hunter Biden sought US help for Ukrainian energy company Burisma
The New York Times (NYT) newspaper has alleged that Hunter Biden, the son of US President Joe Biden, sought assistance from the US government for Burisma, the Ukrainian energy company where he served as a board member.

According to the newspaper's report, which cites "records" and interviews with people familiar with the matter, Hunter Biden wrote a letter to the US Ambassador to Italy, John R. Phillips, on behalf of Burisma, which was working on a geothermal project in Italy while his father was vice president.
In the letter, Hunter Biden requested US assistance for Burisma, where he was a board member at the time.
Ambassador Phillips, in a statement to the NYT, said he receives numerous letters but does not recall whether Hunter Biden wrote to him regarding the Burisma company.
Phillips stated that if he had been in contact with Hunter Biden, he would certainly have been cautious, adding, "Out of courtesy, I would have made sure he probably got some kind of response, but not necessarily from me. I wouldn't even want to encourage it, because I wouldn't want to get ourselves involved in something like that."
Biden's lawyer, Abbe Lowell, said in a statement, "No meeting took place, no project was realized, nothing was requested in the US, and only an introduction was requested in Italy."
