Operation against gangs in El Salvador: 5,000 soldiers participating

In El Salvador, an operation involving 5,000 soldiers has been launched against gangs in the north of the country, following an order by President Bukele.

In the Central American country of El Salvador, President Nayib Bukele had announced that a major military operation would be launched against gangs located in the northern regions of the country following the killing of two people in an armed attack. By Bukele's decision, an operation against the gangs was carried out with the participation of 5,000 soldiers and 1,000 police officers.

In a statement on the social media platform X, Bukele announced that 2 people had been killed in an armed attack in the north of the country and that he had ordered a large-scale operation to capture those responsible.

Stating that 5,000 soldiers and 1,000 police officers participated in the operation, Bukele said, "Those who committed the murders have been caught. Very few people are left from the gangs, and we will not stop until we eliminate them as well."

Bukele also shared footage of the soldiers and police returning from the operation.

Following the declaration of a state of emergency in March 2022 due to the increase in gang-related incidents in El Salvador, 76,000 people suspected of being gang members have been arrested to date.

As a result of trials, 7,000 people have been released.

El Salvador, which is among the countries with the highest homicide rates in the world, is experiencing serious security problems due to the power of gangs in the country.
