Palestinian President Abbas: Israel cannot be a partner for peace and security

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas spoke at the Extraordinary Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Arab League held in Doha, the capital of Qatar, following Israel's attack on the Hamas negotiation delegation in Qatar on September 9. Abbas called on the international community to hold Israel accountable for its actions and demanded a "firm" response from the Arab world. 

Abbas said, "We call on the international community to fulfill its responsibility, to hold Israel accountable for its crimes and its repeated attacks on our countries and our peoples, and in this regard, we demand that practical measures be taken to prevent the recurrence of these violations."

Calling for an end to the attacks on the Gaza Strip, the displacements, and the occupation of Palestinian territories, Abbas stated that security in the region would also be guaranteed by the withdrawal of Israeli forces to the 1967 borders and the establishment of a Palestinian state. Abbas said, "Israel's radical far-right government cannot be a partner for peace and security in our region. Arabs and Muslims must take a firm stance, and the US and the UN Security Council need to intervene decisively to put an end to the actions of this rogue state."
