Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas speaks at the UN podium: 'The whole world is responsible'

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said that Israel is also committing genocide against the people of Lebanon.

Beginning his speech by recalling that 75 percent of Gaza has been destroyed and rendered unrecognizable, and that thousands of people have been killed, Abbas said, "Stop the crimes Israel is committing in Gaza and the West Bank, stop the killing of children and women, stop the genocide, and stop sending weapons to Israel. This madness cannot continue."

Addressing the call by Israel's far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir to build a synagogue at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Abbas emphasized that the Al-Aqsa Mosque and its surroundings belong to Muslims, a fact recognized by the League of Nations in 1930, and that they will not accept anything else under any circumstances.

Stating that they had warned many times before that the occupied State of Palestine was at a breaking point and that this explosion occurred on October 7, Abbas said they had called for sitting at the negotiating table on the basis of a two-state solution, but instead of listening to the voice of reason, Israel began a genocide in Gaza and continues to commit war crimes before the eyes of the international community.

Abbas said, "Israel is now attacking the brotherly people of Lebanon. The Israeli government is committing the crime of genocide against the Lebanese people. Israel must stop the war in Palestine and Lebanon."

PRAISE FOR SUPPORT FOR PALESTINE

In his speech, Palestinian President Abbas thanked the countries that voted in favor of the resolution submitted by Palestine to the United Nations General Assembly, following the International Court of Justice's (ICJ) July 19 advisory opinion declaring Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories illegal, which demands that Israel end its presence in the occupied territories within 12 months.

Thanking the activists who support Palestine, Abbas said, "We are grateful to those who organize demonstrations in support of Palestine all over the world, including in the US and Western countries.

We are also grateful to the activists who came to Palestine by risking their lives. On this occasion, I commemorate Turkish-American citizen Aysenur Ezgi Eygi with mercy. The Palestinian people will not forget the stance of Ms. Aysenur, who was martyred by the Israeli occupation army."

THE DAY AFTER THE WAR IN GAZA

Providing information on the vision adopted by the Palestinian Authority regarding the post-war period in Gaza, Abbas said:

"For the day after the war, we want the attacks by usurping Israelis in Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem to stop completely, for Israel to withdraw from Gaza, for no buffer zone to be established in Gaza, for the people not to be displaced, for the displaced to return to their homes, for humanitarian aid to enter Gaza urgently and regularly, for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and humanitarian aid organizations to be protected, for international protection to be provided to Palestinians, for the Palestinian Authority to have full authority in Gaza and at border crossings, for the reconstruction of Gaza, for international support to be gathered for the State of Palestine to become a full member of the UN, and for the resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly 'foreseeing the end of the occupation within 12 months' to be implemented."

Addressing the world from the UN podium, Abbas requested that a UN resolution be passed to allow them to go to Gaza and that pressure be put on Israel. 

Abbas also added that they would welcome anyone who wants to join them on their way to Gaza.
