Parliamentary elections in Germany... Cem Özdemir maintains his lead

Voting has concluded in the parliamentary elections held in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. According to exit polls, the Green Party, for which Cem Özdemir is the candidate for state premier, has taken first place in the election. Following the release of the exit polls, as the vote count continues, the competitive race between the parties is drawing attention.

GREEN PARTY IN THE LEAD

According to initial projections released by German public broadcasters ARD and ZDF, the Green Party is in first place with between 31.5 and 32 percent of the vote. In the competitive race between Christian Democratic Union (CDU) candidate Manuel Hagel and the Green Party's Cem Özdemir, the CDU's vote share remained between 29 and 30.5 percent. While this result shows that the margin between the two parties is quite narrow, it is clearly visible that the Greens are in the lead.

In the elections, the right-wing populist AfD came in third with a vote share between 17.5 and 18 percent. The Social Democratic Party (SPD) remained in fourth place with 5.5 percent of the vote. The FDP and The Left (Die Linke) each received around 4.5 percent of the vote, becoming significant players in the election alongside other parties.

A HISTORIC MOMENT FOR CEM ÖZDEMİR

If the Greens' election victory is confirmed, Cem Özdemir will earn the title of becoming Germany's first state premier of Turkish descent. This situation is considered a historic step both for the population of Turkish descent in Germany and in a political sense.
