Person who set themselves on fire for Gaza turns out to be a US soldier: 'I will no longer be complicit in genocide!'

The protest by 25-year-old Aaron Bushnell, who was on active duty in the US Air Force, and the footage taken at the moment he set himself on fire have spread on social media.

In the footage, Bushnell, wearing camouflage, identifies himself as an active-duty soldier in the US Air Force and uses the phrase, "I will no longer be complicit in genocide."

Walking toward the Israeli Embassy in Washington, Bushnell says, "I am about to engage in an extreme act of protest, but compared to what people have been experiencing in Palestine at the hands of their colonizers, it's not extreme at all."

HE SHOUTED 'FREE PALESTINE'

Upon arriving in front of the embassy, Bushnell poured gasoline over his head and set himself on fire, repeatedly shouting "Free Palestine" until he was out of breath.

In the footage, where the embassy police can be heard saying, "Can I help you?" and then "Get on the ground," another officer is heard saying, "I don't need guns, I need fire extinguishers."

According to an official from the Washington Fire and Emergency Medical Services, the report was made to the Washington Fire Department around 1:00 PM local time.

The official, who stated that the report noted an adult male had set himself on fire in front of the Israeli Embassy building in Washington, had stated, "When we arrived at the scene, we saw that the fire had been extinguished by uniformed Secret Service personnel."

The official, who said that the person who set himself on fire was taken to a local hospital and was in critical condition due to severe injuries, did not share details about the person's identity or affiliations.
