Plan for $8 billion arms sale to Israel

The Joe Biden administration is planning to carry out an $8 billion arms sale to Israel. U.S. officials have submitted the details of the sales to be made under the agreement to Congress. The arms sales are expected to be conducted with the aim of strengthening defense cooperation between the two countries and increasing regional security.

U.S. officials stated that the State Department presented the agreement to Congress as a measure intended to "support Israel's long-term security by replenishing critical ammunition stocks and air defense capabilities."

Pointing out that the U.S. will continue its support to ensure Israel's security, the official said, "The President (Joe Biden) has made it clear that Israel has the right to defend its citizens in accordance with international law and international humanitarian law, and to deter aggression from Iran and its proxy organizations. We will continue to provide the capabilities necessary for Israel's defense."

$8 BILLION ARMS SALE FROM THE U.S. TO ISRAEL

According to a statement made by an official from the U.S. Department of State, U.S. officials have "informally" notified Congress of an $8 billion arms deal proposal with Israel that includes fighter jets and artillery ammunition.

The arms sale, which requires Congressional approval, includes significant defense equipment and ammunition such as the AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM for defense against aerial threats, as well as unmanned aerial vehicles, 155 mm artillery shells, small-diameter bombs, 500-pound warheads, bomb fuses, and other related equipment.

According to the officials, it is anticipated that a portion of the ammunition under the sale will be sourced from existing U.S. stocks, while the remainder is expected to be manufactured and delivered.
