Poland's harsh reaction to Germany: 'Unacceptable'

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has commented that Germany's decision to begin identity checks at its borders with neighboring countries as a measure against irregular migration is 'unacceptable'.
Tusk criticized Germany's land border control decision during a press conference held in the capital, Warsaw.
Stating that this decision by Germany means 'the de facto large-scale suspension of the Schengen area,' Tusk said, 'Poland does not need to strengthen controls at our border, but rather needs countries like Germany to increase their participation in the protection and security of the European Union's external borders.'
Tusk stated that the decision regarding land borders is 'unacceptable' and expressed that they would be in contact with other European Union (EU) countries regarding this issue.
German Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser had announced on September 9 that temporary internal border controls would be implemented at the country's land borders to limit irregular migration and protect internal security.
On the same day, Hungarian State Secretary Bence Retvari argued that the EU was forcing his country to accept irregular migrants, stating that they would send migrants to Brussels on a one-way ticket.
The European Commission also reported that EU member states can only implement internal border controls in the Schengen area in exceptional circumstances, and that they are in contact with the German government, which has made such a decision.
