Police in the Netherlands go on strike, Feyenoord-Ajax derby postponed

The Feyenoord-Ajax match, which was set to be played on Sunday in the Dutch Eredivisie, has been hit by a strike decision from police unions.

Matches between the two clubs are typically held in a tense atmosphere, and due to the absence of police at the match, the Rotterdam Municipality, the police, and the public prosecutor's office decided to postpone the game, citing that "the safety of players and fans could not be sufficiently guaranteed."

Police unions operating in the Netherlands have been protesting for some time for early retirement and better social rights, and have now decided to go on strike.

While police unions see football matches as an opportunity to make their voices heard, police have not been taking part in duties at stadiums in the Netherlands during Eredivisie matches in the new season.
