Preparations for women's motorcycle licenses in Iran are complete

It has been announced that the process for issuing motorcycle driver's licenses to women in Iran has reached its final stage. Vice President and Head of the Center for Women and Family Affairs, Zahra Behrouzazar, stated that preparations are complete and the first sample of the motorcycle license to be issued to women has been printed.

''NOT INHERENTLY HARAM''

Speaking to the Iranian Students News Agency, Behrouzazar noted that the process was carried out with the support of members of Parliament and religious scholars. Behrouzazar stated that religious scholars have expressed the view that women riding motorcycles is “not inherently haram.”

Reminding that there are already female pilots and heavy vehicle drivers in the country, Behrouzazar emphasized that a motorcycle is also a means of transportation. She stated that she learned during her last meeting with Traffic Police officials that the first sample of the license had been prepared.

Behrouzazar noted that the licenses were planned to be issued starting in March, but the process was halted due to the war that began in June. She said that the introductory ceremony for the first women's motorcycle license, which was planned to be held this month, was also postponed due to war conditions.

Stating that according to the latest assessments, they hope to begin issuing the licenses within this month, Behrouzazar expressed that there is no need for a legal amendment for the implementation, and that the silence in the current legislation has been addressed through administrative regulations.

Behrouzazar also announced that female motorcycle athletes and medal-winning athletes will be appointed as the first instructors; these individuals will take part in the training of women who wish to obtain a license. Despite the restrictions, it is known that some women in the country already ride motorcycles.
