Prime Minister Kurti's party finishes first with 47.13% of the vote in Kosovo general elections

The results of the early general elections held in Kosovo on June 7 have been announced. According to data shared by the Central Election Commission of Kosovo (KQZ), the Self-Determination Movement (Vetëvendosje), led by Prime Minister Albin Kurti, became the leading party.

The Kosova Democratic Turkish Party (KDTP), the party of Kosovo Turks, won two seats and secured representation in parliament.

According to official data, the Vetëvendosje, led by incumbent Prime Minister Albin Kurti, emerged from the elections as the leading party, receiving 47.13% of the votes. The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) received 19.44%, the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) 16.69%, and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) 6.74%. The Kosova Democratic Turkish Party (KDTP), representing the Turkish community, won two seats with 0.70% of the vote.

Vetëvendosje secured 53 seats

In the elections, 21-year-old Fatma Taçi was elected as a member of parliament alongside KDTP Chairman Fikrim Damka. KDTP Chairman Damka had failed to enter parliament in the December 2025 elections, but this time, by placing at the top of the list, he succeeded in entering the 120-seat parliament. In the distribution of seats among parties in parliament, Vetëvendosje secured 53, PDK 22, LDK 18, and AAK 7 seats. Of the 20 seats reserved for non-majority communities, the Serb List won 9, and the KDTP won 2. The remaining seats were distributed among other political parties as one seat each.

Coalition talks expected to begin

With the finalization of the election results, coalition talks are expected to begin in the country to form a new government. At least 61 votes are required to form a government in the 120-seat parliament.

For Vetëvendosje to form a government, it will be sufficient to form a coalition with community parties, including the KDTP. However, due to the two-thirds majority requirement for the election of a new president, it will also need to enter into negotiations with the PDK, LDK, and AAK.

Elections have been held frequently in Kosovo in recent years. Following the general elections held in February 2025, early elections were held in December 2025. Vetëvendosje received 51.1% of the vote in the December 2025 election, formed the government, and received a vote of confidence from parliament on February 11, 2026. However, after the party could not reach a consensus with other parties on the nomination for the presidency, which has largely symbolic powers, parliament was dissolved in April, and Kosovo Assembly Speaker Albulena Haxhiu, who was serving as acting president, called for early elections.
