Protest against legislative changes in Finland: Unions go on strike

Labor unions in the country have begun implementing a strike decision taken to protest the government's planned legislative changes concerning labor market regulations and social security cuts.

Due to the strikes, which are expected to last approximately 3 days and are projected to affect 300 thousand workers, it is anticipated that nurseries and kindergartens will close, air traffic and postal services will be disrupted, public transport will halt, and factories across the country will shut down.

The Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions (SAK) and the Finnish Confederation of Professionals (STTK) had announced that a joint demonstration would be held in the capital, Helsinki, on February 1.

The announcement stated, "This political demonstration aims to show that we cannot accept the government policy that significantly increases inequality in Finland."

Finnish airline Finnair had reported that approximately 550 flights would be canceled during the strike period.
