According to a report by New York-based ABC7, protesters who blocked the entrances to the Port of Oakland protested the US military support for Israel.
ATTEMPT TO BLOCK THE SHIP'S DEPARTURE
The protesters, who claimed that the military ship at the port would sail to Washington and then to the Middle East, attempted to block the ship's departure.
''WE ARE CALLING FOR A CEASEFIRE''
Lara Kiswani, who organized the demonstration, stated in her remarks that they learned from port workers that the ship would be carrying military equipment to Israel, adding, "We are just trying to call for an immediate ceasefire and stop the aid to the genocide against our people."
Clarence Thomas, a member of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union who participated in the protest, noted that their taxes were "going toward weapons being fired at women and children," and said, "These dollars could be spent on things that are more beneficial to the citizens of the US."
