Public in Tehran using subways and mosques as shelters! Stations open 24 hours

In Iran’s capital, Tehran, the public is preparing to take shelter in subway stations and mosques amid expectations that Israeli attacks will increase. Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani announced in a statement to state television that subway stations will remain open 24 hours a day starting Sunday night.

Tehran City Council Chairman Mehdi Chamran stated that there are no bomb shelters in the city, which is why the public is being directed to basements and tunnels.

“NO SHELTERS, MEASURES ARE TEMPORARY”

In a statement to reporters, Chamran said, “Unfortunately, we do not have shelters in Tehran or our other cities. We can use the subway system in extreme crisis situations, but for that, we would need to shut down the system completely.”

Chamran also said that underground parking garages could be converted into temporary shelters. Furthermore, referencing the bombings during the Saddam Hussein era in the 1980s, Chamran indicated that similar measures could be brought back to the agenda.

In a video message released on Saturday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that they would directly target the Iranian regime, saying, “We will strike every facility, every target of the regime.” Iran, for its part, had announced that it would continue to retaliate and could increase the intensity of its attacks.
