Russian President Vladimir Putin has suggested that people should 'have sex during work breaks' as a solution to the declining birth rate.
The news first appeared in the UK-based publication Metro.co.uk.
Russia's birth rate is measured at 1.5 per family. This rate remains below the 2.1 required to maintain the population.
Minister of Health Dr. Yevgeny Shestopalov stated that he supports this idea of Putin's, arguing that busy work schedules are a deterrent.
'PRESERVING THE RUSSIAN PEOPLE IS OUR HIGHEST PRIORITY'
Population decline has been exacerbated by the emigration of more than one million young citizens due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Regarding the initiative, Putin said, 'Preserving the Russian people is our highest national priority. The fate of Russia... depends on how many of us there will be. This is a national issue.'
Russia is implementing various measures to increase birth rates. In Moscow, free fertility check-up services are provided to women.
Additionally, in the Chelyabinsk region, financial incentives are offered to women for their first child, and access to abortion is being restricted.
On the other hand, Duma Deputy Tatyana Butskaya suggested that employers should track and report their employees' birth rates to increase annual births.
