Putin recalls Erdoğan's words! 'There should be three children in every family for population growth'

Russian President Vladimir Putin has called on families to have "at least three children" to cope with the country's population decline. AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had previously made similar remarks.

Meeting with university students during his visit to Kaliningrad, Putin said, "If two people produce only one child, the population falls; even with two children, we can only keep the situation stable. For the population to grow, there is a need for three children in every family."

While noting that birth rates have decreased as education levels have risen and women have focused on their careers, Putin stated that they are trying to support young families. Emphasizing that couples should not delay having children, Putin argued that this is a "necessity for the state."

Birth rates in Russia fell to their lowest level since 1999 last year. The Population Office had announced that the decline in birth rates is expected to continue until 2027. The Russian government is trying to encourage population growth by offering various forms of support to families with children, such as low-interest home loans.
