Putin signals 'natural gas' to Turkey: Exports may increase

Russian President Vladimir Putin made statements at the Eastern Economic Forum.
Putin said that Russia aims to continue gas transit to the European Union but cannot force Ukraine to extend the transit agreement beyond December 31.
The Russian leader stated that the EU seems not to want Russian gas and that Russia will increase supplies to other regions and other routes not involving Ukraine.
In his speech, Putin emphasized that gas exports to Turkey could be increased.
'RUSSIA IS READY FOR TALKS'
Putin said he is ready to negotiate with Ukraine, having previously rejected the idea of negotiations while Kyiv's offensive on the Kursk region continues.
In August, Ukraine launched an unprecedented cross-border attack on Russia's Kursk region, sending thousands of troops across the border and capturing several villages. Shortly after the attack, Putin said the possibility of negotiations had disappeared.
However, at the Eastern Economic Forum, Putin said that Russia is ready for talks.
He stated, however, that they are ready for these talks on the basis of the defunct agreement reached between Moscow and Kyiv in Istanbul in 2022, the terms of which were never made public.
ISTANBUL AGREEMENT TO BE TAKEN AS A BASIS
Putin said, “Are we ready to negotiate with them? We have never refused to do so, but not on the basis of some ephemeral demands, but on the basis of the documents that were agreed upon and actually initiated in Istanbul.”
Regarding the agreement discussed in Istanbul, Putin said, “This agreement did not enter into force because the US and some European countries gave orders to Ukraine because they wanted to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia.”
Putin previously stated that he wanted Joe Biden to win the US presidential election and that he supports Kamala Harris following recent developments.
Earlier this year, before Biden withdrew from the race, the Russian leader had said he preferred him over Trump because Biden was a more predictable “old-school politician.”
